Celtic central midfielder Callum McGregor has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Odsonne Edouard was a bargain signing for the club.

McGregor made the comments about Edouard following the striker’s performance for Celtic against Heart of Midlothian in the Scottish Cup final at Hampden Park in Glasgow at the weekend.

The 21-year-old striker scored twice for the Hoops, as they came from a goal down to get the better of Hearts this past Saturday afternoon.

The former France Under-19 international is a big-game player and always steps up in key fixtures.

Edouard spent the 2017-18 campaign on loan at Celtic from French giants Paris Saint-Germain.

The Hoops made the deal permanent in the summer of 2018 for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £9 million.

The youngster made 22 starts and 10 substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic this season, scoring 15 goals in the process, according to WhoScored.

Celtic and Scotland international central midfielder McGregor, 25, believes that Edouard has proved to be a bargain signing for the Hoops.

McGregor told The Scottish Sun about Edouard: “Strikers these days go for £70m, £80m and £90m. To get someone like that to consistently score goals in big games and decide trophies means it’s a £9m bargain in terms of his return.

“People might have been surprised at the price tag but he’s proved his worth. He had some big goals last year then Moussa Dembele left and he picked up the mantle.

“It’s testament to his character, work-rate and fitness to play so many games and affect so many games. We’re glad to have him.”
