Celtic face a major summer rebuild, with players set to move on.
Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor has told The Scottish Sun that he’s expecting the club to bring more new signings than usual this summer.
The Bhoys are edging towards another league title this season, continuing their push for the title despite losing Brendan Rodgers to Leicester City in February.
Neil Lennon has come in as interim boss and won five of his seven games, drawing the other two, and whilst Celtic will be preparing to celebrate another title, there’s a big summer on the horizon.
Celtic will see the likes of Cristian Gamboa, Mikael Lustig, Dedryck Boyata, Emilio Izaguirre and Dorus de Vries walk away when their contracts expire, whilst loanees Filip Benkovic, Jeremy Toljan, Timothy Weah and Oliver Burke will also move on.
Scott Allan has already agreed to leave, and there are still questions over the futures of Jack Hendry and Youssouf Mulumbu among others.
Celtic may well have to replace nine or more players in their squad this summer, meaning Lennon – if he lands the job permanently as expected – faces a busy transfer window attempting to sort his side out.
Now, midfielder McGregor has admitted that even he is expecting Celtic to bring in more signings than usual this summer, stating Celtic must add numbers in the transfer window in order to keep pushing forward.
“We are looking at trying to bring in a few more faces than we have done previously. We are going to have to try and add numbers,” said McGregor. “But we have a group of players who know what it’s about. We know how to win games and trophies. We’ve shown that,” he added.
