Celtic have signed only two players so far in the January transfer window.
Callum McGregor has told The Glasgow Evening Times that he has been surprised by how quiet Celtic’s transfer activity has been so far this month.
Only centre-back Marvin Compper and young winger Lewis Morgan have signed for Celtic so far, with the latter spending the rest of the season on loan at St Mirren.
With that in mind, it has been a rather underwhelming window for Hoops fans, in comparison to how much business Old Firm rivals Rangers – who have signed four players – are doing.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers only signed one man last year – Eboue Kouassi – but, prior to the Northern Irishman’s reign, at least three players had been signed every January since the 2011-12 campaign.
And McGregor, who has been at Parkhead since the age of eight, admitted to The Glasgow Evening Times that he is struggling to remember many less-active windows.
“There’s not been much happening, it’s probably the quietest one I’ve seen so far but there is still time.
“The manager will be looking. For us we have to keep doing it on the pitch and in training. I think every season I’ve been here they have signed an attacking midfielder or a midfielder.”
In all likelyhood, Celtic don’t need any more signings to repeat the success of last season and win another treble, having already won the Scottish League Cup.
But it’s a different story on the continent and Rodgers surely can’t expect his side to challenge Zenit St Petersburg in their last-32 Europa League tie next month without reinforcements.
Rodgers is already missing a handful of influential players whose participation in that one is in doubt – Stuart Armstrong, Tom Rogic, Patrick Roberts – and the former Swansea City boss could certainly do with some new attacking talent.
