Speaking to the media during Celtic’s winter training camp in Dubai, midfielder Callum McGregor hailed the influence of his skipper and even predicted that the Celtic legend has it in him to be the club’s manager one day, according to the Daily Record.

The 24-year-old spoke of his admiration for Brown, 32, but explained that he feels the veteran will not be fully appreciated until his playing days are over.

“Broony’s probably one of the best captains Celtic’s ever had and we’re lucky to be led by him.

“I can say from my experience that having watched him I have tried to take on everything he does. Then hopefully once he goes I’ll be the next one to try and set the standards that he sets for us as young players.

“You don’t meet a lot of people in football who are as good as he is. If you’re lucky enough to be beside it then you have to learn from it. It would be a shame not to.”

McGregor himself has evolved into quite the player in recent season, often having a heavy influence on Celtic performances for the better. The versatile midfielder has netted 24 goals in 124 appearances for the Hoops, with his efforts leading to his first Scotland call up, making his debut in late 2017.

With three Scottish League medals to his name, the youngster appears to have no intention of going anywhere by the sounds of it.

Aged 32, the Celtic and Scotland captain has donned the hoops for over a decade, winning 14 major trophies since his arrival from Hibernian.

“Could he be a great manager?” McGregor posed, “Aye if he wants to do that.

“He has definitely got that in him. He has that presence to definitely be a manager.”
