Callum Connolly has impressed on loan at Ipswich Town, from Everton.
Everton youngster Callum Connolly has told local newspaper The Green ‘Un 24 that he could join loan side Ipswich Town on a permanent basis, as he becomes disillusioned with Everton’s lack of contact.
The 20-year-old has starred for Mick McCarthy’s side this season, making 28 appearances in all competitions and becoming an integral part of the Championship outfit’s 2017-18 campaign.
Former Ireland boss McCarthy has converted the lofty centre-back into a ball-playing holding midfield player, and it has seen Connolly even find the back of the net three times this season.
Speaking about his long-term future, Connolly refused to rule out a permanent move to Portman Road before stating that he is disappointed with a lack of contact from his parent club – which could be the reason for a move.
“There is always a possibility in football,” Connolly said. “Anything can happen. Let’s see what happens between now and the end of the season. I’ve had contact with Everton, but not as much as I expected.
“The ultimate aim is to play in the Premier League – whether that is with Everton or somewhere else. That’s what I am working towards.
“There hasn’t been as much support as I’ve wanted to be honest, but obviously it’s a man’s game and I’m learning the game on my own.”
Connolly is just one of a number of fringe players at Everton currently impressing on loan, with Kieran Dowell and Mo Besic starring in the Championship alongside Connolly at Nottingham Forest and Middlesbrough respectively.
England Under-20 international Connolly only has one more season remaining on his Everton contract and it remains to be seen if he will look to earn a new deal, or indeed move on in the summer.
