Caleb Ekuban has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Pierre Michel Lasogga is out for two weeks, in comments which differ from Thomas Christiansen’s fitness report on the Leeds United striker.

The Leeds boss suggested that Lasogga’s absence was only set to be brief, as he was ruled out with illness.

However, Ekuban may have given the game away with the comments at the start of his press conference this afternoon.

He said: “There’s a situation where Lasogga is out for a couple of weeks.”

Christiansen did move to clarify his comments on Ekuban’s fitness in his press conference today, after his striker’s slip of the tongue, saying: “I said he was sick and we will see now if he is able to come in now.”

Christiansen may have been keeping the news of Lasogga’s absence under wraps, as he wanted to keep opposition teams guessing about his team selections.

If Lasogga is out for two weeks that could be good news for Ekuban’s first-team chances, though.

The rapid forward came off the substitutes’ bench on Sunday to good impact, as Leeds picked up a 2-1 victory over Middlesbrough.

Ekuban is now pushing for a start, with Kemar Roofe seemingly his main competition for a place in Leeds’ team – if Lasogga is sidelined.

Leeds are next in action against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux tomorrow.
