New Leeds United signing Caleb Ekuban names Newcastle United as the club he supported as a boy.
Championship club Leeds have signed Ekuban from Italian outfit Chievo on a four-year contract, as announced on the Whites’ official website.
The 23-year-old Ghanaian striker has revealed that when he was a kid, he supported Newcastle, who will play in the Premier League next season after winning promotion from the Championship at the end of the 2016-17 campaign.
The youngster told BBC Radio Leeds when asked which club he supported as a boy: “Who did I support? I quite remember that Newcastle were in the championship and also because of the film Goal.”
Ekuban is a talented and promising striker, and Leeds fans will hope that he turns on the style for the Championship club next season.
Given that the Ghanaian supported Newcastle as a kid, he will know what to expect from English football and will be well prepared.
The 23-year-old is one of a number of players Leeds have signed so far in the summer transfer window.
The Whites have secured the services of Mateusz Klich, Vurnon Anita and Felix Wiedwald among others so far this summer.
