Leeds United’s Caleb Ekuban is determined to make up for lost time after an injury-hit first season in West Yorkshire.
Caleb Ekuban has told LUTV that he is desperate to find a bit of momentum after an injury-hit first season at Leeds United.
The Italy-born striker joined Leeds in a £500,000 move from Chievo Verona last summer but a lack of fitness and form means that he is yet to score in the Championship for the Whites.
The 23-year-old has managed 12 league appearances for United this season – only six were from the start – after suffering two separate injuries: one which sidelined him from August to November, and another which kept him out from December until February.
Nevertheless, Ekuban started Leeds’ 2-2 draw with Reading on Saturday, having appeared as a cameo in the previous two Championship outings, and the Italian striker is desperate to make up for lost time.
He told LUTV: “Yeah it’s been tough but it’s all about learning and growing up. I’ve had a couple of injuries which killed the season for me personally.
“But now I’m back and trying to find a rhythm. I’ve had a lot of opportunities to play and I just hope to get some momentum going.”
Ekuban has certainly shown promising signs at Leeds when he has been fit, but the lack of goals is a concern.
Twelve games isn’t a whole lot, but at the same time he has still had a lot of opportunities to break his duck in the Championship and the fact that he hasn’t really had a lot of chances is a bit of a worry.
Paul Heckingbottom’s side host Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby this weekend, and the Barnsley boss must decide whether to start Ekuban again or rotate him with Pierre-Michel Lasogga.
