Caleb Ekuban has joined Leeds United from Italian club Chievo in the summer transfer window.

New Leeds United signing Caleb Ekuban has explained to The Yorkshire Evening Post why he struggled at his previous club Chievo.

Championship club Leeds have signed Ekuban from Italian outfit Chievo on a four-year contract, as announced on the Whites’ official website.

The West Yorkshire outfit had to pay the Serie A side a transfer fee of £500,000 in order to secure the services of the 23-year-old Ghanaian striker, according to The Yorkshire Evening Post.

Ekuban has been on the books of Chievo since 2010, but the youngster failed to make a single league appearance for the Flying Donkeys.

During his tenure at the Italian side, the striker spent time on loan at Sudtirol, Lumezzane, Renate and Partizani Tirana.

The 23-year-old played well for Partizani Tirana during the 2016-17 campaign, and Leeds fans will hope that he can repeat his heroics next season.

Ekuban has explained why he could not make an impact at Chievo, suggesting that he did not get their trust.

“I improved a lot because I was in a totally different context,” Ekuban told The Yorkshire Evening Post regarding his performances for Tirana last season. “They gave me trust and they let me know that I was important for them. Those kind of thoughts helped me to get better.

“I felt happy to be playing, happy in the club, and pleased to be at a place which gave me the support. It was good for me.”

“I tried to find that trust at Chievo but Chievo are a team who are always trying to save themselves from relegation,” said Ekuban about his time at Chievo. “They have a mentality where they use experienced players to keep themselves in the league.

“There is nothing else to say, apart from to say that I’m really happy to be at Leeds and I hope to have that trust here.”
