Leeds United’s Caleb Ekuban is out on loan at Trabzonspor.
Trabzonspor loanee Caleb Ekuban has told Fotospor that he will only think about his future at the end of the season as he nears a Leeds return.
The Whites signed Ekuban from Chievo Verona after impressing in Albania with Partizani Tirana, but he struggled in the Championship.
Ekuban scored just twice in 21 games in all competitions last season, and it was little surprise when Marcelo Bielsa decided to let him go in the summer.
Ekuban headed out on loan to Trabzonspor in a very decent move for the striker, and he has enjoyed a decent season, notching seven goals and three assists in 28 games.
His record in Turkey suggests that he could still be an asset somewhere, whether it’s back at Elland Road or elsewhere, whilst he has just earned his first call-up to the Ghanaian national team.
As reported by Milliyet, Trabzonspor can sign Ekuban permanently for €1million (£850,000) this summer, and fans allegedly want him to stay.
Ekuban has subsequently been asked about the situation, but merely said that his goal is to play as much as possible, and will only look at the situation at the end of the campaign.
“My goal until the end of the season is to play as much as I can,” said Ekuban. “At the end of the season, I will look at the situation,” he added.
There’s a chance Ekuban could return to Elland Road this summer to try and fight for his Leeds career, but having impressed in Turkey, he may be better off settling down with Trabzonsport after years of being a nomad.
Ekuban has played for a different team in each season since the start of the 2013-14 campaign, turning out for Sudtirol, Lumezzane, Renate, Partizani Tirana, Leeds and now Trabzonspor. Having found some success in Turkey, it’s time for Ekuban to give up any idea of a return to Leeds and stay where he’s valued.
