Caleb Ekuban describes Leeds’ support as brilliant

Caleb Ekuban has taken little time to be impressed by the support coming from the Leeds United fans.

Caleb Ekuban has told Radio Yorkshire’s official YouTube channel that the support Leeds get is brilliant and has a major impact on the team when they need help.

Leeds got their season back on track at the weekend it seems, as they beat Middlesbrough 2-1 in front of a packed Elland Road to banish many of the painful memories from before the international break – that seemed to even lead to questions about Thomas Christiansen’s future with the Whites.

The crowd in attendance was one of the most notable factors from the game, but the support was undoubtedly not an anomaly for the campaign with the fans passionately following the club in great numbers in every game.

And Ekuban insisted that the support is brilliant, and suggested that the crowd play a massive role when the side need to call upon every possible advantage to get through a tricky spell.

“It’s really brilliant because every team that comes here knows that they are playing at Elland Road, they know that there is a crowd that will go against them, that will try to help their team,” he told Radio Yorkshire’s official YouTube channel.

“When we play well, you can even see that the fans are backing us even more, and that’s nice because sometimes we just have that type of difficult moment in the game and when you hear the crowd trying to help you to push out, to keep them away from the goal, it’s very nice.”

A perfect example of the team needing the supporters to see them through surely came at the weekend when Luke Ayling was penalised for a foul inside the box on Daniel Ayala despite the fact that the Boro man had hauled the Leeds defender to the floor beforehand.

Leeds, rightfully, felt aggrieved by the decision, and Christiansen may have been fearing the worst as the game could have gone one of two ways when Britt Assombalonga scored the penalty – either Leeds become fired up and see the game out or they let their frustration get the better of them and allow Boro to take advantage. Luckily for the home side, it was the former, and Ekuban may well argue that the fans helped the side in that moment.
