Caleb Ekuban has told LUTV that he struggled to get to sleep after the excitement of Leeds United’s 4-1 win over Port Vale this week.
Leeds reached the second round of the League Cup on Wednesday as a Samu Saiz hat-trick led them to victory over the League Two outfit.
Ekuban, who joined from Hellas Verona this summer, also opened his account for the Whites by scoring United’s fourth goal on the night.
And the Italy-born striker admits that falling asleep that night was not an easy task.
Asked by LUTV whether the adrenaline of scoring at Elland Road for the first time made it difficult to sleep, Ekuban said: “Yeah, very difficult. But I did go to sleep and I slept really good, but let’s say it was quite difficult.”
Ekuban will be hoping that scoring for Leeds is a regular occurrence this season, but starting games might not be.
Chris Wood is United’s first-choice striker and, given how the New Zealand marksman hit 30 goals last season, it seems unlikely that the new forward will displace him for Championship outings.
But all Ekuban can do is keep plugging away and put as much pressure on the 25-year-old as possible this season.
