Caleb Ekuban opened his account for Leeds United on Wednesday.
Caleb Ekuban has told BBC Sport that Leeds United head coach Thomas Christiansen is helping him with his movement so far.
The 23-year-old forward joined Leeds on a four-year contract this summer from Hellas Verona in Italy.
And the Italian-born marksman opened his account for the Whites in Wednesday’s 4-1 League Cup win over Port Vale, adding the fourth goal on 83 minutes.
And Ekuban says that training with Christiansen – who was also a forward during his playing career – is beginning to pay off.
He told BBC Sport: “He’s just trying to help me understand when to move on the pitch, when to go long, when to receive the ball.
“I’m starting to achieve that kind of movement that he wants and help the team have more space, have more width.”
As a striker, Ekuban will be judged on his goals and the new boy will be delighted that he is already off the mark.
The longer it goes without scoring, the more doubt will creep in and he will be relieved to have opened his account already.
But his long-term prospects seem bleak as long as Chris Wood – who scored 30 goals last season – is still at Leeds, but all he can do is challenge the New Zealand striker and hope for the best.
