Newcastle United’s Cal Roberts has made a switch to Kilmarnock until the end of the season.
Cal Roberts has admitted to the Chronicle that he has been keen to leave Newcastle United on loan for some time.
Roberts completed a move to Kilmarnock until the end of the season earlier this week, and he made his first appearance for the Scottish club yesterday.
The 19-year-old scored Kilmarnock’s only goal in fine style, during their 1-1 draw against Gateshead in a friendly.
Roberts is expected to have an important part to play in Scotland, as Kilmarnock look to climb up the Scottish Premiership table.
And the youngster is looking forward to playing regularly, as his chances at Newcastle have been limited.
“I just hope I get the opportunities up there to show what I can do,” Roberts said.
“I have been looking to get out on loan for a while now.
“To get that opportunity to start games is great. To come back to Gateshead and get a goal was good for me.”
Roberts is highly regarded at Newcastle, but he is yet to make his senior debut for the North East side.
Roberts has previously been out on loan at Gateshead, but he only made three appearances before returning to St. James’ Park.
At Kilmarnock, Roberts will link up with former Magpies great Lee Clark, who is currently in charge of the Scottish side.
