The Cameroonian is currently a free agent, and he would be a fantastic addition to the Glasgow Rangers squad this summer.

Gers boss Pedro Caixinha has a lot of work to do at Ibrox this summer, if he is to build a squad capable of challenging Celtic and Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Portuguese’s reign in the Rangers hot-seat could not have got off to a worse start, after his side were dumped out of the Europa League by Luxembourg part-timers Progres Niederkorn at the preliminary qualifying stage.

Despite already having brought in a whole host of new signings, Caixinha needs to strengthen further still, and he could use one of his recent acquisitions to help bring in an another established international defender.

Graham Dorrans, who signed for Rangers last week, spent 18 months playing with Sebastien Bassong at Norwich City, and with the Cameroon international now available on a free transfer, the Scot could help convince him into moving to Ibrox.

The 31-year-old centre-back would be a strong addition to the Rangers squad. He is strong in the air, physically powerful and is quick along the ground.

He is highly experienced in playing at the top level, and his organisational skills would surely help improve the solidarity of the Gers’ back-line.

One potential stumbling block for the Glasgow giants in their pursuit of Bassong, however, could be his wage demands, with the Daily Star reporting that he was on around £37,500 per week at Carrow Road.

He is currently earning nothing though, following his release from Norwich, so some kind of compromise could be reached between player and club.

And if Caixinha does manage to bring the 15-capped Cameroon international to Ibrox this summer, it could turn out to be a real coup for Rangers.
