Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha claims the club won’t be moving for another striker this summer.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha has told The Scottish Herald that he won’t be signing a new striker this summer, despite calls from fans for additional firepower to be added.

The Gers fell to a 3-2 home defeat to Hibernian on Saturday afternoon, as whilst Alfredo Morelos opened the scoring with his third goal in two games, Simon Murray equalised before Ryan Jack was sent off for Rangers.

James Tavernier’s own goal put Hibs in front, and Vykintas Slivka’s long-range strike sealed the win for the visitors, with Tavernier’s late goal for Rangers proving to be little more than a consolation.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Rangers fans, as they watched their side fail to build on the opening day win over Motherwell, and some fans are now calling for manager Caixinha to bring in more firepower.

Rangers did sign two strikers over the summer, with the aforementioned Morelos arriving from HJK Helsinki having thrived in Finland, whilst UNAM striker Eduardo Herrera also joined, reuniting with Caixinha having worked together in Mexico at Santos Laguna.

Both players are vying with veteran Kenny Miller in attack, but having allowed Michael O’Halloran, Joe Garner and Martyn Waghorn to leave, Rangers may still be a body short in the final third.

However, manager Caixinha has now told The Scottish Herald that Rangers must work with the squad they have after a summer of spending, claiming that he has enough different options at his disposal already.

Caixinha added that he can use Ryan Hardie or even Zak Rudden, claiming that he trusts 17-year-old Rudden to play in the first team when required as the Gers look to develop some of their academy prospects.

“No, we can have different options up there,” said Caixinha. “We have three strikers for two positions if we play with two up front, and we have Ryan Hardie there who was on the bench in midweek. We have Zak Rudden who is 17 but I trust him as well. If I have to go back to the youth team to get some players for one or two matches we should have no problems with that. We have to go with the squad we have.”
