Caitlin Clark fears what could come next after picking up her fifth technical foul of the WNBA season during the Indiana Fever’s win over the Phoenix Mercury.
Clark starred in Indiana’s victory with 24 points and nine assists, but much of the postgame discussion centered on a technical foul she received following a heated sequence late in the game.
The Fever guard did not hide her frustration afterward, particularly because she believes the punishment stemmed from something that should never have resulted in a technical foul.

Caitlin Clark could not believe why she was given a technical foul
The incident occurred after Clark became tangled up with Mercury forward DeWanna Bonner in the paint.
Officials called a personal foul on Clark, who then appeared to clap her hands in frustration as she walked away from the play.
Referees immediately assessed her with a technical foul, one of several handed out during the sequence. Clark made her feelings clear after the game.
“It’s ridiculous, I got a technical for clapping.”
The technical was her fifth of the season and continued a trend that has left the Fever star increasingly frustrated with some officiating decisions.
Caitlin Clark already has one eye on the suspension threshold
Clark’s frustration was not solely about the call itself.
Under WNBA rules, players are fined once they reach four technical fouls in a season and receive an automatic one-game suspension upon collecting their eighth.
That leaves Clark three technical fouls away from a suspension despite her belief that this latest incident should never have been punished.
As a result, the Fever star appeared concerned about where the current path could lead.
“We should all just go on the calendar now and pick a game I’m going to be suspended for if I’m going to get technicals for clapping.”
With Clark now sitting on five technical fouls, avoiding further disciplinary trouble could become an important storyline as Indiana continues its push through the WNBA season.
