Fulham were held to a 1-1 draw at Leeds despite putting in an impressive performance.
Cairney was on target during his side’s 1-1 draw on Tuesday
Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney has told the club’s official website that his side need to channel the frustrations of their 1-1 draw with Leeds United and get back to winning ways at home to Cardiff City on Saturday.
A superb effort from the midfielder on 77 minutes initially looked enough to seal an impressive away win for the Cottagers, only for Chris Wood to salvage a point for the hosts with an audacious overhead kick deep into stoppage time.
The result saw Fulham left to rue earlier missed opportunities, with Matt Smith and Sone Aluko both hitting the woodwork for Slavisa Jokanovic’s side, who remain fourth in the table and unbeaten in the league.
The eyecatching start has come as a surprise to many fans and pundits alike, but Cairney insists they cannot rest on their laurels, adding that his side need to find a more ruthless streak in front of goal.
He told the club’s official website: “I think to give Leeds what I would call a footballing lesson for about 80 minutes and not to get the three points is a bit devastating.
“We’ve got to see out these leads. To play like that and come away with nothing is something that we just can’t let happen.
“But we’ve got to try and take that frustration out on Saturday against Cardiff.”
Nevertheless, the former Hull City man is still pleased by the start his team have made to the new season, admitting there were still positives to take from the contest in West Yorkshire.
He added: “If anyone had said that we could have this start then we would have taken it so I suppose you’ve got to look on the other side of it.
We can’t keep beating ourselves up. We’ve just got to try and recover and hopefully if we put in another performance like that we’ll win more games.”
