Caio Borralho could not hide his surprise when talk started swirling about a possible bout between Carlos Prates and Conor McGregor.
McGregor, who once held titles in two different weight classes, has been pushing for his comeback to take place at the UFC White House event scheduled for June.
Though there seemed to be some momentum after ‘The Notorious’ announced he had accepted a fight against an unrecognised name, nothing concrete has come out of it so far.
He voiced his frustrations with the situation earlier this week, just before speculation began mounting about who he might face upon returning.
Fans noticed McGregor posted an image of the welterweight rankings on social media and started linking Prates to the earlier talk of a “no-name” opponent.
Caio Borralho reacts to rumours that his teammate could fight Conor McGregor

‘The Nightmare’ sits at number five in the welterweight rankings, but he still has a way to go before breaking through with casual fans.
His team, ‘The Fighting Nerds,’ has built a following over recent years, largely due to their personalities outside the cage.
Reacting to talk of a potential matchup with ‘The Notorious,’ Prates’ teammate Caio Borralho shared how he first heard about it.
He said to MMAJunkie: “Bro, to be honest with you, I didn’t have a clue about any of this, I saw the poster today and right away I sent a message to Carlos, but he didn’t respond yet.
“I said, ‘What the f— you’re gonna fight McGregor, brother? Bro, if this is true and you didn’t tell me, I’m gonna f—— kill you!’
“I’m in the same spot as you guys, I don’t know if this fight is true and they will fight, (but if it is) it’s gonna be a freaking good fight, brother. So I’m waiting on that, let’s see.”
If the match-up does materialise, Borralho thinks his teammate matches up well against the former UFC champion.
“I don’t think it’s a good fight for McGregor because they’re both southpaws, Carlos will kick him a lot in the calf and he’s got bigger knockout power, I don’t think it’s a good fight for him,” ‘The Natural’ stated.
Carlos Prates realistic about the chances of facing Conor McGregor
Even though fans are keen on the idea of Prates vs. McGregor, ‘The Nightmare’ knows it is a long shot. He does not expect the Irishman to agree to the match-up.
The Brazilian rising star pointed out that after a five-year layoff, ‘The Notorious’ is not likely to return by jumping straight into a bout against one of the division’s most exciting names. Instead, he expects McGregor to look for something more manageable.
