After just over a year in charge of FC Barcelona, the Catalan giants last night made the decision to sack former Everton manager Ronald Koeman.

The club announced on their official website that the ex-Toffees and Southampton coach had been relieved of his duties. Barcelona last night lost 1-0 to Rayo Vallecano just days after losing the El Clasico.

The La Liga side currently sit seventh in the standings after a poor start to the season. Koeman had been facing the sack at Barcelona for some time, and the club finally pulled the trigger.

As well as a poor domestic season, the former Everton coach has experienced a terrible start in Europe. With Barcelona currently third in their UEFA Champions League group.

Indeed, Koeman was never a fan favourite at Goodison Park, and Barcelona making the decision to sack the former Netherlands manager was met with widespread reaction on social media.

With the Newcastle position still open, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Koeman linked with a return to the Premier League in the coming days.
