Liverpool have something of an injury crisis ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Brentford.

It’s nothing like the depleted options in defence that Jurgen Klopp wrestled with for most of last season, but it’s still an issue.

This time it’s about central midfielders and Klopp confirmed on Thursday that quite a few are missing.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the Liverpool boss revealed that Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara will miss out on the trip to London.

And with Harvey Elliott already sidelined, Klopp must choose between Curtis Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to partner Jordan Henderson and Fabinho in the middle of the park.

But if it isn’t the latter, the former Arsenal man may wake up on Sunday knowing he needs to leave Anfield.

This is a 28-year-old player who cost Liverpool £40 million in 2017 and if he can’t make the first XI ahead of a 20-year-old Jones – who has started 13 Premier League games ever – then something is really wrong.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has had some brilliant moments in a Liverpool shirt but for the most part, he hasn’t really had the impact that Klopp would’ve wanted and although injuries have played a role, form – or lack of – has been a much bigger factor.

It’s getting progressively harder to see the England international proving himself a success on Merseyside.

And if Klopp snubs him tomorrow, even when Elliott, Keita and Thiago are injured, then that might signal that the German coach himself has given up on the player to some extent.
