Speaking on the Yours, Mine, Away Podcast, Everton’s Andy Lonergan has been discussing his time at Liverpool and Caoimhin Kelleher.

The 24-year-old Irishman is firmly Liverpool’s second-choice goalkeeper behind Alisson, but he remains one of the most talented goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Indeed, while he doesn’t get to showcase his ability all that often, he does play brilliantly whenever he is called upon.

Lonergan was blown away by Kelleher during his time at Anfield, stating that he is by far the best young goalkeeper he has ever seen.

Kelleher the best young goalkeeper

Lonergan discussed Kelleher’s ability and potential.

“Caoimhin Kelleher, what a goalkeeper he is going to be. He’s the best young keeper I have ever seen. He’s by far the best young goalkeeper I have ever seen. The penalties as well, yeah, he’s brilliant, what a goalkeeper,” Lonergan said.

Safe hands

Liverpool have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world in the shape of Alisson Becker, but they also have a safe pair of hands behind him in the shape of Kelleher.

In the case of injury or suspension, Liverpool know that Kelleher can step up and do a brilliant job in his own right.

Unfortunately, the Reds may not be able to keep the Irishman happy for much longer.

Indeed, the life of a second-choice goalkeeper can be frustrating, and after proving himself for a number of years now, the 24-year-old may soon be on the search for first-team football elsewhere.

For now though, Liverpool can rest easy knowing that they may well have the best first and second-choice goalkeeper combination in the Premier League.
