Brentford ace Kristoffer Ajer has lauded Mohamed Salah as the best player he has faced in his career after defending against the Liverpool winger last month, via the Daily Record.

The Bees hosted the Anfield outfit at the end of September as they enjoy their first Premier League season. Ajer joined Brentford for their first top-flight campaign since 1946/47 from Celtic in a £13.5m transfer this summer.

Thomas Frank’s side have so far faced Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea among England’s top-six clubs. But Ajer only made Brentford’s bench against the Blues as he recovered from an injury. Ending a run of six-straight league appearances with the west London natives.

Liverpool mark Ajer’s most recent Premier League start for Brentford, in which Salah scored and the game ended 3-3. The Egyptian fired the Reds’ second at the Brentford Community Stadium for his fifth of 10 league goals this term.

Salah left an impression on Ajer, who rates the Liverpool winger above any other opponent he has so far faced.

“I now play in a fantastic league where I am challenged week-in and week-out,” Ajer said. “I am happy with the start I have made. We have defended well as a team.

“I have come up against incredible players. For example, I was up against Salah the other week, who was extraordinary and by far the best player I have ever played against.”

Salah thriving in lethal fashion for Liverpool

Salah is thriving in lethal fashion this season with the Liverpool dynamo scoring 15 goals in 12 games across all competitions. Only Burnley have so far kept the 29-year-old from finding the back of the net during their August encounter.

Ajer also denied Salah from scoring in Brentford’s meeting with Liverpool by making an early goal-line clearance. But the £200k-a-week attacker eventually found a way past David Raya, despite earning extra attention from the Bees backline.

Salah left an impression on Ajer, too, for him to rate the Liverpool star the best player he has faced. The 23-year-old centre-back has so far defended against Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos most often with 15 encounters across all competitions.
