Celtic are stepping up their pursuit of Kawasaki Frontale full-back Reo Hatate ahead of January.

The Hoops are hoping to sign the defender this winter, as per a report by the Daily Record.

Hatate, 24, has been identified by Ange Postecoglou as an ideal left-back addition.

Celtic have had success with Kyogo Furuhasi during the first-half of this season and are now looking to lure his Japanese counterpart to Glasgow.

Hatate is out of contract with Kawasaki at the end of January and Celtic are hoping to get his work permit and paperwork completed soon.

Career to date

The former Japan Under-23 international has been with his current side since 2019 and has made 60 appearances in all competitions over recent seasons.

Prior to his move to the J1 League side, Hatate played for FC Yokkaichi and Juntendo University before he got spotted.

A potential move Celtic is on the horizon for him now as he is poised to embark on a career in Europe.

Interestingly, Hatate could make his debut against Rangers in the Old Firm if the deal is completed by 1st January.
