Newcastle United defender Jamaal Lascelles has praised Patrick Bamford and told the Getting Messi Podcast that he is ‘buzzing’ for the Leeds striker.

After coming through Chelsea’s jam-packed academy and trying to make a name for himself at several Championship clubs, Bamford finally found a home in Yorkshire two years ago.

On that journey, Bamford played with Lascelles during their days with Nottingham Forest and they are now both thriving in the Premier League.

Lascelles was asked who from the footballing world he would invite to a dinner party, as he named the Leeds star, alongside Rio Ferdinand and Pep Guardiola, as his guests.

“Probably, Patrick Bamford,” said Lascelles. “I haven’t seen him for a while, it would be nice to have a catch-up.

“He is doing really well. I am buzzing for him. It’s been a long time since he has been given a chance in the Prem and he’s taken it with two hands. He’s doing really well.”

Well, both players will have the chance to have a reunion when the Magpies travel to Elland Road for a midweek fixture next month.

Given Bamford’s start to the season, he will be backing himself to score on the night and it may turn out to be extra special for him if he manages to get the better of his former teammate.

But one thing is for sure, the Bamford that Lascelles knew as a youngster is a completely different animal now.
