Tottenham Hotspur fans on Twitter have reacted to the rumours that Kieran Trippier could be signing for Newcastle United.
Three years after Spurs and Mauricio Pochettino sold the right-back to Atletico Madrid for £20 million (BBC Sport), he could be returning in the colours of Newcastle during the January transfer window.
The Daily Mail have claimed that Trippier is ready to quit Atletico Madrid and join the struggling Magpies.
Spurs fans have offered a mixed reaction to these rumours and questioned whether they should bring him back.
Ever since Trippier left, they have struggled in that department with his replacement – Matt Doherty – becoming a back-up under Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and now Antonio Conte.
Emerson Royal was also snapped up by Spurs in the summer, so if they are to bring Trippier back, then one of those would have to leave, and in truth, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Doherty does.
The Republic of Ireland international just hasn’t got going and even struggled for minutes under the coach – Nuno – he thrived under at Wolves.
Either way, the Spurs faithful also have mixed feelings about their former player heading towards St James’ Park and what he can do for the club.
It would be a big signing for Newcastle if they were to snap him up because he would be joining from the champions of Spain and bringing all the experience he has under his belts.
