Garth Crooks has claimed to BBC Sport that Jordan Henderson saved Liverpool from defeat on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp’s side looked on course for their second Premier League defeat of the season when Fulham went into the final 10 minutes with a narrow 1-0 lead.
But a Mo Salah penalty on 80 minutes saw Liverpool return to Merseyside with a hard-fought point.
Despite the goal, it was a pretty average performance from Salah – who has netted 13 times in all competitions this season – and a number of other big players for Klopp also struggled.
Liverpool were much better after the break, when Henderson moved to centre-back following an injury to Joel Matip.
And Crooks believes that the reigning Premier League champions were destined to lose if not for their inspirational captain, who he claims will play every game during the hectic festive period by virtue of how much Klopp trusts him.
He told BBC Sport: “No Jordan Henderson in this side and Liverpool lose this game. Ravaged by injury, I get the feeling the Reds might be feeling a little sorry for themselves but not Henderson.
“Liverpool are facing a gruelling period over Christmas but I bet captain fantastic plays in every one of those fixtures.”
