Tim Sherwood thinks Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are in the Premier League title race, alongside Arsenal and Manchester City.

The former midfielder says he is ‘changing his mind’ about it being a ‘one-horse’ race, as he stated that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal won’t get a better chance to become champions of England.

Arsenal are five points clear of Pep Guardiola’s men, eight clear of Man United and ten clear of fourth-placed Newcastle.

The crucial thing here is that the Gunners have played a game less than all of those sides.

But, at the end of the day, points on the board equal pressure and Man United, who play Leeds United on Wednesday night, have the chance to close that gap, just to keep that door ajar.

Of course, Arsenal, who were beaten by Everton at the weekend, can shut down all this talk by beating Man City later on this month at the Emirates.

All in all, it’s a pretty nail-biting title race and Sherwood thinks it’s a four-way battle, as he told Premier League Productions (05/02/23 at 7:20 pm)

“I always said it’s a one-horse race with Manchester City, but I am changing my mind,” said Sherwood. “This is different now. This isn’t Liverpool and Man City where they can go on a run and win until the end of the season.

“Do you think Man City can win every game from now until the end of the season? I think they are the best team capable of doing that. But Man United are in the argument now, and so are Newcastle, the way Eddie Howe has got them.

“It’s Arsenal’s to lose now. I mean they play Man City twice. Absolutely (Man City have to win both games) – I honestly believe Man City will win the league, but I wouldn’t put my life on it.

“Someone has to break the mould. They have to win it sooner or later. I think they have a squad capable of winning it. Arsenal are massively in it and they aren’t going to get a better chance than this.”

IS THIS ARSENAL’S TIME?

Given that it’s Manchester City chasing Arsenal, the dominant team of the last decade, then everyone is expecting them to go on a crazy run and gun down Arsenal.

But it’s just not happening.

Perhaps that comeback win over Tottenham a number of weeks ago was the first sign, then Arsenal lose to Everton.

But Man City slip up again, none other than against Spurs, so even if Arteta and his players stumble, they can afford to do so because those behind them aren’t exactly punishing them.

Newcastle didn’t beat them at the Emirates, Man United lost to a last-minute winner, whilst Man City didn’t capitalise on Everton beating the leaders.
