‘But I thought Bamford’: Some Aston Villa fans react to interesting tweet about Ollie Watkins

Both Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins, and Leeds United’s very own, Patrick Bamford, have been some of the standout performers in the Premier League this season.

In the goalscoring charts, the Leeds man (14 goals) is piping Villa’s big-money summer signing (12) by two goals.

But, according to WhoScored’s tweet, the former Brentford man has created a remarkable 38 chances from open play this season, level with Harry Kane.

Now, Watkins will be hoping to join the Premier League’s current highest goalscorer and assist-maker at the Euros this summer, and so will a certain Bamford.

With countries now able to take a 26-man squad, rather than the usual 23 because of COVID, it does open the door for Bamford to fill those extra slots after Watkins was picked ahead of him during England’s most recent internationals.

Nonetheless, the Villa Park faithful have been wowed by Watkins showcasing his all-round ability this season, and that’s proven by the chances he’s created and the number of times he has hit the woodwork.

Whilst a little domestic battle seemingly ensues between Watkins and Bamford, it’s all positive for both parties because it may end up resulting in them sharing the same pitch at St George’s Park.
