West Ham midfielder, Declan Rice, has shared on the Lions’ Den how he would react if Harry Kane insisted on him taking a 90th-minute penalty in the final at Euro 2020.
Even though the West Ham star would have ‘full belief’ in himself, he shared that he would still let Kane take the penalty because he is ‘the best number nine’.
Well, England are in that territory now where taking penalties could become a real possibility – starting with Germany on Tuesday.
But Tottenham fans will love Rice’s response when he was asked the following question about Kane:
‘If you won a penalty in the 90th minute of the final, Kane gives you the nod do you take it or give it to Kane?’
“You are going to have to give it to Harry Kane, aren’t you,” responded Rice. “He’s giving you the nod.
“But he’s taken more penalties. He has done it in World Cups. He has done it in big situations before.
“I have only ever taken two. If he was insisting (I take the penalty) then I would because I have full belief in myself.
“But if Kane is on the pitch then best number nine, for me. You have got to give it to him to win it and take all the glory.”

Well, if England are awarded a penalty inside 120 minutes during these knockout games then there’s no doubt that Kane is the one stepping up to take it.
But if the Three Lions have to step up and take penalties in a shootout then it will be interesting to see if Rice is one of the players who puts his name forward.
Nonetheless, it has happened before, England have taken penalties before, lost plenty of them before and that to the German’s.
So, we all know where this one is heading tomorrow.
