Robbie Savage defended Tyler Roberts after suggestions that Diego Llorente was ‘angry’ with his Leeds teammate for constantly losing the ball during their 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former Premier League midfielder thinks Roberts should have told Llorente to ‘defend better’ after his foul led to Newcastle scoring the only goal of the game.

Jonjo Shelvey was the man who delivered the goods for his side when his clever free-kick beat Illan Meslier at his near post.

Whilst Llorente started the game, Roberts came off the bench for Dan James just before Shelvey scored.

One Leeds fan was pretty critical of the player when he was speaking to Robbie Savage on 606, but the former Wales international defended his fellow countryman.

The Leeds fans claimed: “You bring on Tyler Roberts, I have never seen Diego Llorente get annoyed, angry and frustrated, he was screaming at him saying ‘you have given the ball away twice’.”

Savage responded to those claims: “Well, if I was Tyler Roberts, then I would be saying ‘defend better’.

“When Manquillo went past him, he pulled him down and he was just on the edge of the box.

“But did that lead to the goal? So, Llorente’s foul, which brought down Manquillo and that was the goal.”

All in all, it was a frustrating afternoon for Leeds at Elland Road and they will be hoping to bounce back after this mini winter break.

Whilst someone like Kalvin Phillips won’t be available for their away clash at Aston Villa.

Marcelo Bielsa will be hoping that Patrick Bamford does return to action because he has missed more than half of the campaign.

All of this has been problematic for the Yorkshire side and their inability to put a consistent run of form together.
