The former Leeds United club captain’s wage demands were too high.
Sol Bamba of Leeds United (L) and Diego Fabbrini of Millwall in action
Bury manager David Flitcroft has told the Bury Times why a deal to sign former Leeds United captain Sol Bamba will not be happening.
Bamba was released by Leeds United the day after the transfer window shut. The Ivory Coast international was apparently released due to personal reasons, but it soon emerged that Leeds boss Garry Monk was not overly keen on the player after a poor start to the season.
Bury were then linked, as they look to cover their current central defensive shortage.

But speaking to the Bury Times the League One side’s manager made it clear that Bamba would not be signing. The Shakers spoke to people at Leeds about a deal and it seemed to be going fine, but Flitcroft suggested that things turned when agents became involved:
“He is absolutely and completely out of our price range. We spoke to his people and it was ridiculous.
“He is a player that I have liked but it’s something that we quickly dismissed.
“When it came available we spoke to people at Leeds and it could have been a possibility but when the agents got involved it just became obscene – and quite ugly at times – so we stayed away from that one.”
Bamba was club captain at Leeds and was excellent for the club when he first arrived. However, his performances became more and more erratic in recent times and Monk decided he should move on.
Leeds’ current defensive pairing of Pontus Jansson and Kyle Bartley is proving to be very successful and Bamba is now proving a forgotten memory.
But hopefully he can soon find a team to continue his playing career with.
