Bury boss David Flitcroft has been speaking about the future of his goalkeeper Jack Ruddy this week, as it looks increasingly likely that he is on his way to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wolves have been looking into doing a deal for the player for some time and the 18-year-old has spent the past week on trial at the Championship club.

Flitcroft has now spoken about the deal, making it clear the club wanted to ensure they were well compensated for his exit, and that a deal is nearly over the line.

He told the Bury Times:

“We protected ourselves with Jack.

“We gave him a professional contract so it’s outside the compensation and we’re trying to work on that deal with Wolves.

“Jack has been fantastic while he’s been here but we’ve got to do the best deal for the football club and we’ve certainly been working hard on that – it’s very close, it’s almost over the line.”

Ruddy has only made one senior appearance for the Shakers but is highly regarded in the game as one of English football’s top young goalkeepers.

The Scottish talent is a former Rangers youth-team player who then spent time with Real Murcia in Spain after his family emigrated there from Glasgow.

Wolves have been catcthing the eye with some of their big-profile transfer moves this summer, however they are not neglecting the future with an approach for the Scottish talent.

Ruddy will be battling Carl Ikeme, Jonathan Flatt and Andy Lonergan for the number one spot, but is likely to play with the development team first.
