Leeds United face Burton Albion in their Boxing Day fixture in the Championship.

Leeds received a boost during their clash with Hull City at the weekend – to go with the 1-0 victory – with Pierre-Michel Lasogga making his first appearance for the Whites since the start of November as the German came on for the final 15 minutes at Elland Road.

Lasogga has enjoyed a mixed loan spell so far, with five goals coming in 11 Championship appearances for Thomas Christiansen’s men, but his performances have been questioned at times, and it may not have been a surprise had he been dropped for the home game against Middlesbrough had he not sustained an injury anyway.

However, with most of Leeds’ strikers enjoying similar seasons to Lasogga – the likes of Kemar Roofe and Caleb Ekuban have earned plaudits, but have also struggled to maintain their form over a sustained period – the forward’s return to fitness is certainly welcome, and it may not be a surprise if Christiansen brings him back into the starting lineup for the trip to the Pirelli Stadium and the Boxing Day clash with Burton Albion.

And perhaps given his last performance against the Brewers, they may well be the perfect opponents for Lasogga to remind the Leeds fans of what he is capable of.

Lasogga made his debut for the club in the home game against Nigel Clough’s side back in September, and he introduced himself to the Elland Road faithful in sensational fashion, scoring two and setting up another as the Whites went on to win 5-0 to move themselves up to second in the table.

Leeds have painful memories of their last trip to Burton – as their play-off hopes were virtually dashed after a defeat on the ground last season – so Lasogga would undoubtedly enhance his reputation amongst the fans if he was able to inspire the Whites to a win on Boxing Day, especially if he manages to replicate the performance he put in the last time the two teams met.
