Burton Albion picked up their first ever Championship points with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at the Pirelli Stadium.

It was an historic night for Burton Albion as they picked up their first ever points in the English second tier after beating last season’s play-off finalists Sheffield Wednesday 3-1.
The league newcomers also currently boast the best attack in the division having scored seven goals in their opening three matches as they climbed to 15th in the table while Wednesday dropped to 13th.

Burton took an unlikely lead inside the first 10 minutes as Kyle McFadzean’s left-footed strike found the found the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 1-0.
However, the Brewers’ goal hero soon turned villain after he was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the area. The resulting spot-kick was calmly converted by Gary Hooper to draw Wednesday level after 12 minutes.

Just before half-time the hosts retook the lead as Jackson Irvine headed John Mousinho’s cross into the bottom left corner of the goal to make it 2-1 at the break.
The Owls looked shocked as they hadn’t conceded a league goal before last night and a potent Burton attack soon made it three as new signing Lloyd Dyer netted his second of the season with a neat left footed strike from just inside the box.
The hosts managed to hold out for a famous 3-1 victory, much to the delight of their fans.
