Burton Albion boss Jake Buxton has told the club’s official website that Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish was the difference between the two sides.
Grealish scored Villa’s second goal of the night as they won 3-1 against Burton last night.
The attacking midfielder was a constant menace during the match against Villa’s League One opponents.
And Buxton admits that he was impressed by the quality of Grealish, and some of his teammates.
“We are disappointed that it’s another set play that has cost us but ultimately the quality of Jack Grealish was what counted,” Buxton said.
“They had a lot of quality. They moved us around and controlled the game but we also felt that we were well in the game until those last few minutes and the quality they brought off the bench in terms of fresh legs hurt us as well.”
Villa actually fell behind against Burton, but goals from Ollie Watkins, Jack Grealish and Keinan Davis ensured that Dean Smith’s side avoided an upset.
Grealish’s goal was the pick of the bunch, as he drove home a volley from a corner.
It was a fine way for the newly capped England international to crown his first appearance, after penning a new long term contract with the club earlier in the day.
Villa will now take on either Bristol City or Northampton Town in the third round of the competition.
