The Burton Albion record signing has been linked with a host of clubs in recent weeks, and has been told the Brewers won’t block his path.

Following news that Burton Albion boss Nigel Clough conceded that the club won’t stand in Jackson Irvine’s way if a suitable offer from a bigger club comes in, as reported by BBC Sport, Aston Villa should chase up their reported interest and sign the midfielder.
Australian news outlet SBS have reported that Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Fulham are interested in signing the Australia international, and with good reason following an excellent season from the Burton man.

The 24-year-old, who is the club’s record signing at £250k following his switch to the Brewers last summer from Ross County, as reported by the Birmingham Mail, scored 10 goals in 42 Championship appearances for Burton as they defied all the odds to survive in the Championship following their promotion from League One in 2015.
Villa are fairly stocked in midfield with the services of Henri Lansbury, Conor Hourihane, Gary Gardner and Irvine’s compatriot Mile Jedinak to name just four options, but none of them – maybe barring Lansbury following his exploits at Nottingham Forest – will regularly chip in with goals from midfield, to the point double figures is possible.

With that in mind, Villa boss Steve Bruce should definitely look to do a deal with their fellow Midlands based club, as Irvine provides something different to what they already have, while also taking into account his tender age of just 24.
Last summer, Villa made a lot of extravagant purchases with varying degrees of success – signing Irvine would represent a change from that, as it would be a very logical and sensible signing, which would significantly boost the team.
