After losing Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink in December 2015, Nigel Clough has guided Burton Albion into the Championship for the first time in the club’s history.

Returning to the Pirelli Stadium for the second time, Nigel Clough was appointed the Burton Albion manager in December 2015, tasked with continuing the Brewer’s impressive promotion push.

Despite a dip in their win rate, Clough steadied the unsettled Burton ship safely into the promotion places, with the Brewers finishing second, achieving promotion to the Championship for the first time in their history.

For Chairman Ben Robinson, the promotion was the culmination of years of hard work and progress, put into place by both Clough, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Gary Rowett before them.

Knowing they would need a strong back-line to withstand the Championship, Nigel Clough worked hard over the summer to bring in defensive reinforcements, signing Cardiff City’s Ben Turner, MK Dons’ Kyle McFadzean and Ross County’s Jackson Irvine.

Moving into 2017, Burton Albion will know they need to strengthen their team in the January transfer window, but with Nigel Clough at the helm, it’s very likely that we’ll get to see Burton Albion in the Championship again in 17/18.
