Burnley boss Sean Dyche has moved to calm fears over Andre Gray’s future.
Burnley’s Andre Gray celebrates scoring
Burnley boss Sean Dyche has told the Lancashire Telegraph that Andre Gray’s contract will take care of itself amid speculation surrounding a move away from the club.
Gray, a former non-league striker having failed to make the grade with hometown club Wolverhampton Wanderers, has risen back up the leagues, and was key for Burnley in their promotion campaign last season.
The 25-year-old attacker hit 23 goals in 41 league games following a big-money move from Brentford last season, and is starting to hit his stride in the Premier League as well.
Gray has scored three goals in his last six Premier League outings for the Clarets, with his goal tally for the season now at eight in the league and nine in all competitions.
Burnley could face a problem this summer though, as Gray has just over a year left on his contract, and the pacey forward is now being linked with a summer move away from Turf Moor.
The Telegraph report that Tottenham Hotspur are looking at Gray as they consider options to support Harry Kane in attack, whilst The Mirror claimed last weekend that Newcastle and West Ham are also in the race.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche
Now, Burnley boss Sean Dyche has told the Lancashire Telegraph that Gray’s contract is no different to any other player’s, in that he must continue to perform, and then a new deal will sort itself out.
Dyche added that Gray is still adjusting to Premier League football and still has room to develop, but Burnley are happy with his displays, meaning they will hope to fend off interested clubs this summer.
“It works no different to any other player,” said Dyche on Gray’s contract. “Simple as that. They keep playing, we want them to perform, and the rest takes care of itself one way or the other down the line somewhere.”
“He’s still learning, he’s still adapting to life in the Premier League. There’s a lot of work he needs to continue doing, which he’s willing to do, and we enjoy what he’s doing for us. That’s it really,” he added.
