Burnley want Viktor Gyokeres and could now join Leeds United in the race to sign the Coventry City striker in the January window.

The Clarets were very busy over the summer as they completely re-tooled Vincent Kompany’s squad.

A top striker signing didn’t materialise though, meaning Ashley Barnes and Jay Rodriguez are still being relied upon.

Halil Dervisoglu did arrive on loan from Brentford and Kompany may now fancy a big-money striker in 2023.

Burnley want Viktor Gyokeres

The Sun now claim that Burnley are set to enter the bidding for Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres in January.

Gyokeres is allegedly top of Kompany’s list for a new striker and Burnley could launch their move.

Coventry wanted around £15million for Gyokeres in the summer but Burnley are hoping to grind down that fee to a more reasonable price.

Gyokeres, 24, has smashed nine goals in 19 Championship games this season.

The Swedish attacker is continuing his fine form having hit 17 goals and five assists in 45 games last season.

Formerly of Brighton, Gyokeres now seems destined for the Premier League and Burnley are hoping he can take them there.

One problem for Burnley may be that top-flight clubs are also interested in Gyokeres.

Transfer reporter Dean Jones told Give Me Sport back in August that Leeds were strongly considering a late move for Gyokeres.

Leeds still need a striker in January with Patrick Bamford injured again, this time with a groin problem.

Having wanted him just a few months ago, Gyokeres will surely still be on the Leeds radar having been in the goals this season.

Branded ‘unbelievable’ by boss Mark Robins, Gyokeres surely has admirers throughout the Premier League and if Burnley firm up their interest, Leeds may well make a move of their own.
