Burnley may be in the relegation zone but their performances and results have improved of late, and a win over last season’s runners-up will give them a lot of confidence for the rest of the season, whilst Liverpool will look to turn more promising performances into better results.
To be played on Friday 26th December 2014 at 15:00. Venue: Turf Moor, Burnley
Odds: Burnley 15/4, Draw 11/4, Liverpool 11/13
This is a big period of the season for both sides. If Burnley can reach the halfway stage of the season outside of the relegation zone that will give them a massive boost given they see the year out against last season’s top two, and Liverpool will look at the fixture list and fancy their chances of getting themselves into contention for the Champions League places, given that many of the sides above them play each other.
The home side will be confident of causing an upset having beaten high flying Southampton during their last home game, and perhaps felt unfortunate they didn’t get anything out of their trip to White Hart Lane, where they lost 2-1 to Tottenham last time out.
Much has been said about Liverpool’s improving performances going forward ever since they changed to a new system. They will be without Fabio Borini but are able to welcome back Mario Balotelli from a groin problem and suspension. Brendan Rodgers has also hinted at given Raheem Sterling a rest over the festive period, whether it will be at Turf Moor remains to be seen.
“You can’t tell [they’re struggling] as they are so good some of those players. They have gone down to Bournemouth and turned them over. I watched them and they were outstanding. I focus on ourselves.”
Sean Dyche
“I know Sean (Dyche) very well. He’s done a great job with very limited resources.”
