Premier League newcomers Burnley could miss out on the signing of free-agent Becir Omeragic while being quoted £11.5 million to sign Turf Moor favourite Jordan Beyer on a permanent basis.

Perhaps, with Taylor Harwood-Bellis and the aforementioned Beyer only on loan from Manchester City and Borussia Monchengladbach respectively, Burnley saw Omeragic as a potential replacement.

A 21-year-old who idolises Thiago Silva and Sergio Ramos identified as someone capable of taking the place of one of Vincent Kompany’s promotion-winning heroes.

It’s likely we’ll never have a straight answer to that particular poser. Because, despite interest from Turf Moor, Foot Mercato reports that Omeragic has his heart set on joining Montpellier instead.

Vincent Kompany’s Burnley to miss out on Becir Omeragic

Capped four times by Switzerland, the Geneva-born giant will leave FC Zurich this summer; his contract expiring on July 1st. Foot Mercato believe that, in addition to Burnley, Omeragic was also a target for Braga. Ditto Bundesliga duo Hoffenheim and Augsburg.

Montpellier’s Stade de la Mosson, however, appears his most likely destination. This season, four teams rather than three will be relegated from France’s top flight. Montpellier are safe from the drop, however, despite losing two on the bounce. Omeragic will be playing top-flight football in one of Europe’s major leagues in 2023/24.

Just not at Burnley.

“I know him personally. He’s a very interesting player,” former AC Milan and Italy ace Cristian Zaccardo tells Tuttomercatoweb of Omeragic, who was linked with an £8 million move to West Ham last year.

“I’ve been following him for two years. He has great experience and personality despite being born in 2002. He Can play in multiple positions in defence. In both a back three and a back four.”

Burnley will surely look to keep Harwood-Bellis and Beyer for next season. Either by launching permanent bids, or by extending their loan deals.

Burnley are currently under a transfer ban. According to The Guardian, however, the Clarets still hope to be able to bring in new players by the time the summer arrives.

Beyer, meanwhile, will set Kompany’s side back around £11.5 million.

“There is a purchase option (in Beyer’s contract),” Gladbach director Ronald Virkus tells Kicker. “With a very high price. 15 million euros.”
