HITC Sport understands Burnley could hijack Sunderland move for keeper.
Robbin Ruiter at Utrecht
Burnley are considering a late move to sign Sunderland trialist goalkeeper Robbin Ruiter, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Sunderland have been leading the chase for free agent Ruiter after taking him on trial last week.
The Dutch keeper has impressed in two pre-season friendlies for Sunderland against Bradford and Scunthorpe so that Black Cats boss Simon Grayson could have a look at him in action.
Grayson is keen to offer Ruiter a deal at the Stadium of Light having lost both Jordan Pickford and Vito Mannone to Everton and Reading respectively this summer.
However, they have yet to secure Ruiter’s signature and the news has alerted other clubs who are in the market for goalkeeping reinforcements.

Burnley are looking for a new goalkeeper to add to their ranks at Turf Moor after former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson announced his retirement earlier this month.
Robinson played back-up to No.1 keeper Tom Heaton last season and Clarets boss Sean Dyche is keen to replace former Leeds and Tottenham star Robinson.
Dyche is now considering a move for Ruiter to provide cover to Heaton and could look to offer him a move to the Premier League if Sunderland fail to sign him.
