Celtic are linked to Scott McKenna and the Burnley striker can see why.

Burnley striker Sam Vokes has told The Scottish Sun that reported Celtic target Scott McKenna has ‘Premier League potential’ after facing the young defender recently.

The Scottish Sun reported on Saturday that Celtic had taken an interest in the Aberdeen centre-back who, according to The Record, is valued at around £10 million by the Dons.

Vokes came up against the 21-year-old in both legs of the Europa League qualifier, with Burnley needing extra time on Thursday to dispose of the Scottish Premiership outfit.

And the Welsh striker tells The Scottish Sun that it comes as no surprise to him to learn that McKenna is attracting interest from the likes of Celtic and Swansea City.

He said: “You can see why big clubs down here are looking at him. He had a great couple of games against us.

“Obviously it’s the first time I have faced him, but I can definitely see why he’s being linked with a big move. “There’s definitely Premier League potential in the lad.

“Actually, I saw potential in a lot of their lads. They were a very strong team, their squad as a whole was good, and you can see why they’re challenging Celtic.”

It is a huge tribute by Vokes, who has 93 Premier League appearances under his belt and therefore knows a thing or two about the quality of defending in England’s top flight.

And the fact that he reckons McKenna is made of the same stuff is exciting for Celtic and Aberdeen.
