The Newcastle United centre-back would be a superb addition to the Burnley squad this summer.

The Clarets will once again have their backs up against the wall in the Premier League this season, as they face another tough challenge in their hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship.

With Michael Keane set to depart for Everton, for a fee that could rise to £31 million, according to the Telegraph, Sean Dyche will have to make the signing of an established centre-back his priority this summer.

With this in mind, Burnley should consider a move for Magpies defender Grant Hanley.

The 25-year-old moved to Newcastle from Blackburn Rovers last summer, but failed to establish himself at St James’ Park, making just five league starts for Rafa Benitez’ side.

The Scotland ace’s quality is unquestionable though, and given a consistent run of regular first-team football, he would surely prove to be nothing less than a fantastic asset for the Lancashire outfit.

Hanley is a strong, tenacious defender, and the manner in which he gives 100 per cent commitment to the cause will surely appeal to Dyche.

Whilst he is not the quickest of players, he is an excellent reader of the game, and that footballing intelligence more than makes up for his lack of pace.

Despite the fact that the Scot is clearly not favoured by Rafa, the Toon will surely expect to recoup at least the £5.5 million that they reportedly paid for him last summer, according to Sky Sports.

In today’s day and age though, that would represent good value for an international defender, and Burnley should make it their priority to bring him to Turf Moor this summer.
