Free agent Andros Townsend is currently training with Burnley as the club prepare for the new Premier League season.

Andros Townsend is currently taking part in pre-season training with Burnley, as reported by the BBC. Townsend is a free agent, having left Everton at the end of last season upon the expiry of his contract.

The 31-year-old winger endured an extremely frustrating campaign with the Toffees last time out. He was forced to watch on from the sidelines for the entirety of the season as he recovered from a cruciate ligament injury.

He will be hoping to get back to full fitness as soon as possible, and eager to prove that he can still cut it at Premier League level. If he impresses whilst training with Burnley, Vincent Kompany may even be tempted to offer the 13-cap former England man a contract at Turf Moor.

Should Burnley sign Andros Townsend?

If Townsend can prove his fitness, then he could be a handy addition to Kompany’s squad. He has a great chance to impress whilst training under Kompany’s watchful gaze. The Belgian coach has built a youthful squad, which romped to the Championship title last season. Some extra experience could help them to survive in the top flight this season though.

Across spells with Spurs, Crystal Palace and Everton, Townsend has amassed more than 250 Premier League appearances. In that time he has managed 25 goals, 35 assists, and earned a reputation as a hard-working, professional wide man with an eye for the occasional spectacular strike from range.

He wouldn’t be a regular starter for Burnley, but Townsend would be an affordable addition, and could prove a smart move amidst a busy summer for Burnley.
