Burnley have been linked with a move for Newcastle United winger Matt Ritchie, who signed for the Magpies from Bournemouth for £12million back in 2016 (as reported by the Chronicle).

As reported by The Daily Mail, Ritchie could make the switch to Turf Moor this month as Burnley seek to bolster their wide options.

However, even if Burnley are seeking to bring in a winger, they shouldn’t consider a move for Ritchie, who has produced some rather disappointing displays this season.

Although he has six assists in 21 Premier League appearances for Newcastle so far this campaign, Ritchie has yet to score in the top flight and his overall performances have often been unconvincing, as demonstrated by the fact that he has gone seven league games without setting up a goal.

While at Bournemouth, Ritchie was rather more impressive but he still only managed to score four Premier League goals in the 2015/16 season and he doesn’t appear to be a particularly good option for Burnley to consider.

Ritchie’s lack of end product at the highest level is rather concerning and Burnley would be better served by looking elsewhere in this transfer window, as bringing in the 28-year-old is unlikely to give them an extra edge.
