Young Barcelona full-back Marc Cucurella reportedly rejected a move to Burnley earlier this transfer window.

Sean Dyche added Stoke City’s Erik Pieters earlier this month to compete at left-back with Charlie Taylor but, if the report was to be believed, the Clarets were keen on bringing in young Cucurella on a permanent deal this summer window.
The report reveals that Cucurella rejected Burnley’s approach for him and opted to stay in Spain for at least another season. The youngster joined fellow La Liga side Getafe on a season-long loan deal and Jose Bordalas’ side have an option to sign him on a permanent deal for just £5.3 million next summer.
The rejection is unfortunate for the Clarets especially after a disastrous previous campaign in the Premier League. Burnley finished seventh in the season before last and if they could have maintained the same form last term, they could well have convinced Cucurella to make the switch.

Sean Dyche’s side should not be too disappointed that they missed out on Cucurella especially with the number of players available in their squad to fill in at left full-back. Pieters and Taylor are more than capable of playing at left-back while Robbie Brady can also drop deep if and when required.
Cucurella is undoubtedly a fantastic talent and £10.7 million would have been a decent amount to buy him but the Clarets should use the same money to strengthen other areas of their squad in order to replicate their heroics from the 2017/18 season.
