Burnley target Francesco Margiotta has been left out of the Luzern squad as he closes in on a move away, with manager Fabio Celestini admitting to Zentral Plus he’s disappointed by the situation.
Two years after his Juventus dream ended, the late-blooming number nine could be about to secure a well-deserved return to one of European football’s major leagues.
Margiotta failed to make the grade in Turin but his form in Switzerland could pave the way for a move to the Premier League.
The Sun (31 August, page 62) reports Burnley have been casting their eye over a versatile forward who produced a career-best 14 goals and 12 assists from his favoured central attacking role last season.
And, after the former Italy youth star was left out of the squad for Luzern’s opening-day clash with Lugano, it seems unlikely he’ll be plying his trade at the Swissporarena beyond Monday’s transfer deadline.
“At the moment, Francesco Margiotta is out of the team,” says Celestini. “I only accept players in the squad who are with us and are 200 per cent committed.”

Zentral Plus suggests Margiotta has had his head turned by interest from Turf Moor, adding Burnley were the most likely destination for a journeyman forward who never made a first-team appearance during six years at Juventus.
Clarets boss Sean Dyche has made it clear he wants, and needs, new faces with a host of untested youngsters sitting on the bench during Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Southampton.
