Burnley’s Michael Keane in action
Burnley manager Sean Dyche has told the Lancashire Telegraph that interest in defender Michael Keane is both a compliment and a challenge.
Keane has been subject of reported interest from Leicester City – who, according to the Daily Mirror, made a £17 million bid for him during the summer – while Chelsea have also been linked with interest in the 23-year-old, though at the end of last month Dyche said the player was not for sale – according to the Daily Mail.

Dyche is quoted in the Lancashire Telegraph, saying: “It’s a double-edged sword. It’s a compliment in many ways that people are writing stories about your players but there is a challenge to make sure we, as a club, are secure.
“We said in the summer that players weren’t for sale and they weren’t. Keano’s still here. We don’t worry too much about the future.”

The Burnley boss seems very relaxed about the speculation and interest surrounding one of his players but seems pretty firm in his desire to keep hold of him. One does wonder the kind of speculation there will be ahead of the January transfer window. Dyche will certainly want to keep hold of the player who has impressed at the start of this season, as Burnley look to retain their Premier League status.
No doubt that if Keane were to be sold any time in the near future then he would command a rather large fee that would help the club be secure in one sense in terms of their finances. The club appears very well run on that front.
They have proven they can stand their ground in one window – the lure of Champions League football will have been appealing for the player, with the Mirror’s report claiming Keane wanted the move to happen. But he has started the season well and is making a very effective contribution to the side.
